ALLANWATER HOMES – INSPIRED LIVING

Get Your Garden Summer Ready

The nights are getting longer and the days are getting warmer, Summer is on its way. That means we’ll be able to spend more time in the garden soon!

But before we can fully enjoy our garden space, there are a few things that need to be done:

Grass

With the bad Winter weather and rainy Spring, there hasn’t been an opportunity to cut the grass! Hoist the lawn mower and the strimmer out of the garage or shed and get cutting!

Weeds

Quite possibly the bane of every gardener’s life… weeds. Go around your pots and flower beds and tug the weeds right out from the roots or invest a decent weed killer. Don’t forget to check the cracks in your garden path and driveway too.

Plants

No garden would be Summer ready without a range of beautiful and colourful plants and flowers. Think about the plants you would most like to have – geraniums, marigolds, sunflowers – and make sure you have plenty of fresh soil. Plant each seed, bulb or plant a good distance away from each other so that their roots have room to grow and give them a good water. If you’re afraid of any insects ruining your flowerbeds, scatter slug pellets or spray your plants with a pesticide.

Painting

The harsh Winter weather may have battered the paintwork on the fence, shed or garden furniture, making it begin to flake and peel. It might be time to give them a new lease of life with a fresh lick of paint.

Furniture

Find your garden furniture and give it a clean. If you don’t have any garden furniture, go and buy some! A table and a few chairs are all you need. Maybe invest in some new throws and cushions to make any benches or loungers more comfortable.

Food

Summer wouldn’t be complete without a barbeque or two! Give your Barbie the once over to make sure it’s suitable to use and stock up on any essentials you might need, like coal, fire starts and, of course, food!

All that should be left to do now is wait for a scorcher of a day, sit back and enjoy your gorgeous garden.
