Readers of the Alloa Advertiser are being encouraged to help support families most in need across the Wee County as the annual Foodbank Appeal gets underway.
Donation bags are being givien to readers as a simple way to contribute essential food items. Once filled, bags can be dropped off at The Gate, where they will be distributed to individuals and families facing food insecurity across Clackmannanshire.
The appeal is calling for donations of non-perishable food items, including pasta, tinned meats, pasta sauces, pulses, one-kilogram bags of long-grain rice, UHT milk, tea, and small jars of coffee, staples that can make a meaningful difference to households under pressure.
Jay-Anne McLaughlin, foodbank coordinator at The Gate, highlighted just how important every contribution is.
“Everything matters,” she said. “Even if you can only put one thing in the bag, that’s still a big help. We can’t do the work we do without the support from the community.”
The Foodbank Appeal has received strong backing from businesses across the Wee County, demonstrating the power of local support in tackling food poverty. Sponsors this year include Carpet Gallery, Tillicoultry Quarries, Little Stars, OI Glassworks, and Allanwater Homes.
Speaking about their involvement, a representative from Allanwater Homes said:

The appeal highlights the continued need for foodbank services during challenging times, while also showcasing the generosity and compassion that exists throughout Clackmannanshire.
Every item donated helps ensure that vital support reaches those who need it most proving once again that when the community comes together, real change is possible.
